Top Manicures Of The Season

By Amanda Cohen on April 15, 2016

New seasons mean new weather, which means new clothes, which means new accessories. What some of you may not know is that accessories go so far beyond just jewelry and purses; yes, I know it sounds crazy, but I promise I’m not lying to you.

Accessorizing involves all of the nitty-gritty details that you put into your overall look each and everyday. One of my personal favorite accessories is (drum roll, please) the manicure. A manicure is a fashion statement that is obtained from pampering and treating yourself. Let’s be real, nothing feels better than cleaning up your cuticles and nail length, finishing the entire process off with a brand new color and/or pattern.

With the winter weather finally coming to an end, it is time to welcome new and improved nail colors and designs for the 2016 spring and summer seasons. I know this may sound overwhelming to think about during finals, but it doesn’t have to. Keep on reading to hear about the new and improved spring and summer manicure tips!

The One Nail Wonder

Patterned nails are fantastic (I’ve provided some examples below), however some people want to find a happy medium between the amazing patterns and the simple manicures they grew up with. Ladies, I introduce you to what I like to call “The One Nail Wonder.” The name says it all; basically all of your nails besides your ring fingers’ nails are painted with any solid color that you want and your ring fingernails are jazzed up with a cool pattern or design of any sort (some of which I have described below).

Literally, you can do anything to spice up the ring fingernail on each hand: sparkles, small images, letters, numbers, stripes, polka dots, and more. When deciding the solid nail polish that you should use as your base, I recommend anything that is pastel or white-out white, as these colors will accentuate your summer tan.

I’m Blue; If I Were Green I Would Die

Once again I want to give a shoutout to the ladies who prefer a simpler flare when it comes to their manicures. The “I’m Blue; If I Were Green I Would Die” is the perfect choice for your spring/summer manicure. Once again, the title is pretty self-explanatory, but I’ll delve more into details anyways.

Basically all you have to do is transfer your “winter blues” energy into your fingertips by choosing one of the plethora of blue nail polishes that exist today. This is personally my favorite manicure choice because I love experimenting with the different blue nail polishes I see at the salon (literally the choices are never ending). There are blues with hints of silver and purple, dark blues, shimmery blues, metallic blues, matte blues, and more (the choices are endless)!

Shimm(er)y Shimm(er)y Cocoa Puff

The next few options are dedicated to the ladies who are in awe over the various Pinterest boards that advertise a desk-full of nail designs. If you have long nails and beautiful hands, you want to show them off in the best way possible. If you want to put the luminous spotlight on your fingertips (or if you love Nelly as much as I do), why not opt for the luminous “Shimm(er)y Shimm(er)y Cocoa Puff” nails?

This manicure involves painting your nails in any solid color you want and then topping it off with some sparkles. Some people layer their entire nail with sparkles, some people just put sparkles on the French manicure nail line, while others “bling out” the part of their nail that hits their skin. If you decide on using blue, purple, green, or grey for your solid coat, use silver sparkles. On the other hand, if you choose warmer colors like pink, yellow, orange, or red for your solid coat, use gold sparkles.

Who Needs An Hombre When You’ve Got Ombre?

The ombre trend goes so far beyond just styling your hair; yes, everyone, I am here to tell you that ombre can also be a manicure. The “Who Needs An Hombre When You’ve Got Ombre” takes the ombre hair trend and transfers it straight to your fingers.

Ombre is basically a “fading” pattern where you take colors from one simple umbrella color group (for example different variations of purple) and fade them out of each other when you paint your nails. You almost create a wavelike appearance for your nails. Unlike when ombreing your hair, you can use different directional variations on your nails. You can go for a diagonal flow, a vertical flow, a horizontal flow, or even a circular flow (if you want different directional ideas go onto Microsoft Word and look at their options for creating a gradient background).

Ombre can be created using any color scheme you want. Since it’s springtime, I recommend using lighter colors rather than using something like a midnight blue or a deep purple.

Triangled Fingernail

For once in my life I am being inspired by Kylie Jenner because she singlehandedly created one of the coolest nail designs I’ve ever seen, which I like to call the “Triangled Fingernail.” This title is also pretty self-explanatory because the entire manicure is finished with a small tringle whose base is at the bottom of the nail and then points upwards.

Depending on the size of your nail beds and the length of your nails, the triangle will look different. However, for any type of nail you can use any color you want and add any sort of flare that you want. Some people like to add a white stripe at the bottom of the triangle, while others prefer to crown the triangle with a rhinestone. Some people prefer tall, thin triangles, while others opt for short, wider triangles. Once again there are too many variations to list (we would be here all day).

Just like with any sort of fashion, make sure you stay true to your individual style and personality. However, one thing I recommend for all of my readers is to treat yourself and get a manicure; you deserve a study break and you deserve to pamper yourself a bit!
