3 Benefits Of A Vegetarian Diet

By Rachel Pasholk on May 15, 2016

For many people, when they hear the word vegetarian, they get an image of a person who most likely is super skinny, does yoga at 5 in the morning, and only eats salad. This, however, is not the reality for most vegetarians, and it is just the image the public puts on the lifestyle that create such a stereotypical image.

While many vegetarians do tend to look healthier than others, that is just one of the advantages of eating and living vegetarian. There are many more benefits than just on your health, even though those benefits are great. Here are three benefits of a vegetarian diet that help everyone.

1) You will be a healthier person.

This may sound like the beginning of every pro-vegetarian diet speech you will ever hear, but it is true. To begin with, if you make the right choices when eating, having this kind of diet can reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack in the future. This is because, generally speaking, they eat more natural foods that have less preservatives, and this means that the negative effects on the body are less. You also will be more healthy with a vegetarian diet because vegetarians tend to not be as obese, which means as you age you will be less likely to develop diabetes and will be able to live a happier, healthier life.

2) Climate change will be lessened.

If you care anything for the environment and the kind of world we are going to be leaving for the next generation, then you should think about a vegetarian diet. The reason I say this is because one of the leading causes of climate change is factory farms. For those who might not know, factory farms are large facilities where all of the animals used for meat are raised in very tight quarters and many never see the light of day.

These contribute to climate change because they pollute, a lot. This is because it takes a lot of machines to run an operation of this kind, and with that many animals, there is going to be a high amount of waste. By eating vegetarian, you can sleep well at night knowing that your diet is not fueling the largest cause of climate change.

3) It is easier on your wallet.

This may be one of the biggest misconceptions, and that is that eating a vegetarian diet will cause your grocery bill to increase greatly. This isn’t necessarily the case. A diet that includes meat is one that can end up costing a lot because of all the meat, and the high volume that many people eat. While vegetables can be more expensive, in the long run it is a cheaper diet. The reason for this is a number of things, but one is the high processing costs of meat. The average vegetarian can save up to $750 a year on food.

It is pretty easy to see that there are a lot of benefits for eating a vegetarian diet. While a meat based diet is not bad, it is a lot healthier and more humane to simply keep to the vegetarian ways. It is better for you and better for the world around you.
