4 Healthy and Inexpensive Foods

Salmon

Salmon is extremely healthy for you; it contains healthy fats your body needs to properly function. Salmon is not only full of health benefits, but it is also delicious. Most stores sell salmon for about five dollars for two fillets. Pairing salmon with brown rice or quinoa and some fresh vegetables would make for a healthy and satisfying meal, without causing you to go broke.

Turkey Burger

The turkey burger contains less of the “bad” fats than a regular hamburger does and tastes just as good. Having the sweet taste of a burger does not have to cost an arm and a leg; six turkey burger patties cost around five dollars. You can serve this with corn on the cob and some baked beans to get that summer cookout vibe we all love! Or you could just pair it with a simple salad. Either way, you can eat healthy without disappointing your taste buds.

Pasta

Carbs are not our enemy! Many healthy fruits contain a percentage of carbs. Whole wheat pasta is the way to go because it allows you to get the nutrients that white pasta lacks. A box of whole wheat pasta is a little less than two dollars and contains four servings. Two dollars for four meals? That’s a great deal! For those of you who are not able to eat gluten, there are cheap versions of gluten-free pasta. Ronzoni is a great gluten-free pasta brand, sold for a little over two dollars, and it tastes great. Add some greens to your plate and you will have a satisfying and wholesome meal.

Chicken

You can never go wrong with a chicken breast–it is both healthy and appetizing. There are so many ways to cook a chicken breast that you will never get bored eating it. You can grill, boil, bake, or fry chicken (with very little oil), all with great results. Bags of frozen chicken breasts are about seven to eight dollars and usually contain five chicken breasts. Include some fresh vegetables or a nice salad and brown rice, and you will be set.
