How to Prevent Yourself From Getting Sick

By Carelyn Tiburcio on October 28, 2016

This article is for those people who aren’t living at home anymore. This is for the people that have to fend for themselves. Your parents are no longer there to make you soup when you get sick. Since you’re living on your own, you want to find ways to prevent from getting sick and that’s why I’m here. I’m here to share all my tips on how I prevent from getting sick.

Arriving in college means that you’re going to be meeting many people. This means that you will be exposed to tons of new germs (sounds gross right?). Your roommates may even catch something that’s super contagious and you wouldn’t want to catch that, right?

Wash your Hands

Well in order to prevent those germs from spreading, make sure to wash your hands on a regular basis. Wash your hands before you eat or make dinner, wash your hands when you come back from any public place, or after touching anything unfamiliar. I always carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer just in case I don’t have access to a bathroom sink. It’s so important to wash your hands because you can accidently rub your eyes or eat with germ-infected hands.

Don’t Share Food and Don’t Share Items

It’s as simple as that. Don’t take a bite off of someone’s sandwich just because they want you to, don’t take a sip out of their so-called “good drink.” You literally make it so easy for your body to get infected when you share food. Also, don’t share towels or anything of similar nature (that’s just unsanitary).

Clean on a Regular basis

You should be cleaning your place on a regular basis. When you clean on a regular basis, your place is less prone to having germs as opposed to not cleaning at all. You never know if your roommates get sick. It is always a good idea to wipe down everything in the apartment that they touch so that you and your other roommates don’t get sick.

 Get Some Sleep

I know that this hard for a college student, but you’re going to have to do it if you want to prevent from getting sick or eventually get lots of it if you are sick. Without proper sleep, your body doesn’t have enough energy to combat viruses and infections. Your immune system needs sleep!
